Why Contribute

There is a significant shortfall of ophthalmologists in developing countries. Furthermore, although the number of practitioners is increasing in developed countries, the population aged 60+ is growing at twice the rate of the profession. To meet this widening gap between need and supply, it is necessary to aggressively train eye care teams now to alleviate the current and anticipated deficit of ophthalmologists worldwide [1].

The International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) works with organizations around the world to create and implement effective and cost-efficient programs in education, eye care, and leadership

Maximizing our resources and keeping administrative costs low is possible because of our expansive network of volunteers, including ophthalmologists. Your donation directly sustains programs and doctors working to improve ophthalmological health on a global scale.

We would like to thank all International Council of Ophthalmology Foundation (ICOFoundation) Donors.  They are our partners in enhancing ophthalmic education and improving access to quality eye care throughout the world.

Robert Ritch“I have hosted over 90 ICO fellows and more than 130 observers from over 50 countries. I have seen the growth and development of ICO fellows, both as surgeons and as individuals, and many have achieved leading positions in their home countries. The ICO fellowships have helped not only the fellows themselves, but also the patients, teaching, and healthcare systems in their home countries. Donating to the ICOFoundation is truly a worthy cause.”
